Morning Briefing: Sunday 25 October 2026
- If you are in Scotland or northern England: an amber wind warning runs until nine tonight, and Northern Ireland’s expires at ten this morning. Five Scottish A-roads are closed, almost all island ferry sailings are cancelled, and one operator reports disruption on 21 of its 39 routes.
- If you are waiting for social housing: the Treasury has trailed more than £1bn for social and affordable homes in England at Wednesday’s Budget, taking its ten-year programme past £40bn. It is on the record from the chancellor but is not yet a published government document.
- If you claim benefits or draw a pension: April’s uprating is already fixed by September’s inflation figure. The single person’s universal credit allowance rises 4.3% to £102.28 a week, the new state pension 3.9% to £250.70, and most working-age benefits 3.5%. Local housing allowance stays frozen in cash terms.
