- Hezbollah’s chief Naim Qassem on Thursday formally rejected the conditional Israel-Lebanon truce announced by Lebanese and Israeli envoys in Washington, demanding a comprehensive ceasefire and complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory. President Donald Trump said “progress made” despite the rejection. The Qassem rejection confirms the structural flaw of the deal: the US-brokered talks did not include Hezbollah, and the “complete cessation by Hezbollah” clause is now operationally unverifiable. Israel’s defence minister said Thursday the deal grants Israel the freedom to strike Beirut if conditions warrant.
