Trump concedes Iran war cost votes, but signals vetoes ahead
President Trump acknowledged that the war had contributed to Republican losses — “Iran was a piece of it” — but said he did not regret launching it and that it would end “when I say it ends”. He told CBS he wanted to strike deals with congressional Democrats, then posted an image of his red cap emblazoned with the word “veto”.
Before polling day Mr Trump had said: “I’ll become Mr Veto, and then at some point we’ll probably make deals.” Because legislation will almost certainly need his signature, NPR notes, the Democrats’ cost-of-living agenda may become a 2028 platform rather than law. Senate control will, however, halt the steady confirmation of his judges and force Cabinet nominees to win Democratic votes. Robert Garcia, expected to chair the House Oversight Committee, posted two words: “LAWYER UP.” The BBC’s Anthony Zurcher says a historic third impeachment attempt could be on the cards.
