Hundreds of GP Surgeries Lose Online Booking After Firm Collapses
About 500 GP practices in England, just under 10% of the total, have lost their websites and online booking after Silicon Practice went into administration. Practices in London, Gloucestershire and Norfolk have reported problems, and services in Wales are also affected. NHS England told patients to contact their practice “by phone or in person as usual”.
More than 40% of GP appointments are now booked online. Since last year, every practice in England has had to offer online booking. GP leaders warned of huge disruption. The NHS app still works, but affected surgeries will now have to field far more phone calls. The collapse shows how much of primary care depends on small private suppliers. Questions over contract resilience and contingency plans now fall to NHS England.
