Two Dead in Boelo as Storm Chloe Arrives Tomorrow
A second man has died in Storm Boelo: a driver in his twenties killed when a tree fell on his car in north London at twenty to one on Sunday, two hours after a 60-year-old was struck near Castle Douglas. About 33,500 Scottish properties are still without power, and a third named storm arrives tomorrow.
Storm Chloe brings a yellow wind warning running from three tomorrow morning until just before midnight — twenty-one hours covering much of Scotland, parts of northern England and Northern Ireland. It lands before the repairs are finished, and the head of customer operations at the larger Scottish network said he could not guarantee reconnections would be complete before it arrives. The outstanding figure splits as roughly 29,000 in the north of Scotland and 4,500 in the south and centre; Northern Ireland is down to fewer than a thousand from a peak of 12,500. Almost 100,000 Scottish properties were restored over the weekend. Two women remain in hospital after a tree fell at Aberfeldy. Five Aberdeenshire primary schools closed today for want of power and a secondary for damage, two Highland rail lines remain shut, a care home was evacuated at Saltcoats and fifteen people were helped from a flooded caravan park at Ballantrae. England has ten flood warnings and 65 alerts this morning, Scotland ten and eleven, Wales nine alerts. Police Scotland say disruption is likely to run well beyond the expired amber warning.
