Rayner Promises Greater Public Control of Housing
Housing associations in England will be told they cannot reject homeless families without good reason, under plans Angela Rayner set out at conference. Councils would also get 60 days to bid to buy social homes when they come on the market.

The measures sit in a Social Housing Bill intended to strengthen homelessness prevention and protect the social housing stock. They arrived on the same day as a separate scheme to help first-time buyers, which sent housebuilder shares sharply higher — Taylor Wimpey, Vistry and Bellway briefly rose more than 20% before settling back.
