AI Minister Wants Plan for 'Unprecedented' Job Losses
Kanishka Narayan said the government must “take seriously the possibility of an unprecedented impact on the jobs market” from artificial intelligence. There is no evidence yet of an overall fall in jobs, he said, but a contingency plan is a priority.

“If it’s going to hit us in a big way, you are going to want to be as ahead of the curve as possible,” he told a conference fringe event. Narayan was appointed AI minister by Andy Burnham in July. The remarks sit alongside the chancellor’s emphasis on first jobs for young people — the entry-level roles most exposed to automation.
