Russian Drone Kills a 14-Year-Old in Central Kyiv
A drone struck a sixteen-storey residential block in Kyiv’s Pechersk district this morning, killing a fourteen-year-old boy and injuring at least seven people. In Odesa, the regional governor Oleh Kiper said one person was killed and another hurt in what he called massive strikes on a residential area and a postal operator’s logistics site. Russia’s defence ministry said it had hit defence-industry facilities, logistics centres and vessels. Swedish and Finnish jets scrambled on Thursday to intercept Russian aircraft over the Gulf of Finland.
The economic attrition arrived on the same morning as the human kind. ArcelorMittal told the Ukrainian government it cannot restart its Kryvyi Rih plant safely or sustainably after repeated missile strikes, and expects to book a non-cash charge of around $1bn — one of the largest single corporate write-offs of the war, and a signal to every other foreign investor still holding Ukrainian assets. The Nordic intercepts over international airspace complete the picture of a week in which Russian aircraft and drones have touched Poland, Moldova, Romania and now the Gulf of Finland. Against that, Washington’s limited-ceasefire proposal covering grain and energy has still drawn no public Russian answer. Watch whether Moscow responds before winter sets the terms itself.
