Israeli Strikes Kill Gazans as Ceasefire Push Falters
At least 10 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes across Gaza on Wednesday, hospitals and the Palestinian Red Crescent said, two days after US negotiators urged Israel to scale back its attacks. Israeli troops also crossed the ceasefire line in southern Gaza at dawn and detained a Hamas police colonel. The strikes cast fresh doubt on the American-led effort to secure a truce, which President Trump has pressed Israel to support.
The killings come just days after Jared Kushner asked Benjamin Netanyahu “not to create obstacles” to a deal, and they underline how little the diplomacy has changed on the ground. Israel says its strikes target Hamas commanders, including one linked to the 7 October 2023 attack, but the mounting civilian toll and a fresh ground incursion suggest a military campaign running well ahead of any ceasefire. For Washington, the gap between its public appeals and Israel’s continued operations is becoming harder to explain. Israel’s military separately said it would open criminal inquiries into some troop conduct during the war. Watch whether the US applies real pressure or the strikes go on.
