Ukrainian Drone Strike Kills 13 Deep Inside Russia
A Ukrainian drone strike on an oil refinery deep inside Russia killed at least thirteen people, including a child, and wounded dozens, Russian regional authorities said. The attack, on a facility in Tatarstan some 750 miles from the border, was among the deadliest for civilians in months. Ukraine said it had hit the site to degrade Russia’s war economy.
Kyiv has increasingly reached far into Russian territory with long-range drones, targeting the refineries and industry that fund and fuel Moscow’s war, and the strikes have periodically disrupted Russian fuel supplies. The reported civilian toll, if confirmed, would be unusually high for such a raid, and Russia’s account could not be independently verified. The attacks come as Russia keeps up its own bombardment of Ukrainian cities and peace efforts remain stalled. Deep strikes on energy infrastructure also add to the jitters in oil markets.
