Russian Barrage on Kyiv Kills at Least 17
Russia launched one of its deadliest attacks on Kyiv in months overnight, killing at least seventeen people and wounding dozens, Ukrainian officials said. In a barrage of more than a hundred drones and nearly thirty missiles, Ukraine downed most of the drones but said it intercepted none of the missiles, which struck more than two dozen locations. President Zelensky said the main targets were civilian sites, among them a brewery, warehouses and a railway station.
The scale of the assault, and the failure to stop a single missile, laid bare the gaps in Ukraine’s air defences that Mr Zelensky has pleaded with the West to fill. He renewed his call for ballistic-missile interceptors and for sanctions on Russia’s missile production, warning that his cities remain exposed to nightly bombardment. The casualty figures, from Ukrainian authorities, were still rising and could not be independently verified. The strike came as Kyiv pressed its own deep drone raids into Russia, and as talk of peace faltered. Watch whether the West speeds the promised air-defence deliveries.
