Zelensky Decries Kyiv Toll as Strikes Go On
President Zelensky condemned Russia’s deadly overnight assault on Kyiv, which killed at least seventeen people, and released footage he said showed a Russian drone deliberately striking a civilian in the southern city of Kherson. He accused Russian forces of taking “pleasure in killing” and renewed his appeal to Western allies for more air defences. Ukraine said not one of the nearly thirty missiles fired overnight had been intercepted.
The strike, one of the deadliest on the capital in months, and the failure to stop a single missile, sharpened Ukraine’s warnings that its cities are dangerously exposed. Mr Zelensky is pressing for ballistic-missile interceptors and for sanctions on Russia’s missile production, arguing that Moscow is deliberately targeting civilians to break Ukrainian morale. The casualty and interception figures came from Ukrainian officials and could not be independently verified. The attacks came as hopes of a negotiated end to the war remained distant.
