Russia's Overnight Barrage Kills Eight Across Ukraine
Russia fired more than seventy missiles and over two hundred and eighty drones at Ukraine overnight, killing at least eight people, including children, and wounding dozens. Six died in the Dnipropetrovsk region — among them a six-year-old girl — with others killed in Kyiv and Poltava and more than thirty wounded in Lviv. President Zelensky called air defence “the most important task” and renewed his appeals to allies for more interceptors.
The scale of the assault, striking homes, a market and cities far from the front, laid bare the exposure of Ukrainian civilians as Mr Zelensky pressed this week for the systems to stop them. It came hours before one of the barrage’s missiles strayed into Poland, and as Kyiv kept up its own strikes on Russian refineries. Ukraine said it downed most of the incoming drones, a figure that could not be verified. Each such night sharpens the argument in Western capitals over how much air defence to supply.
