Netanyahu Meets Trump in Washington With Iran Top of the Agenda
Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel arrived in Washington for a meeting with President Trump, their first since the war with Iran began, with Iran policy at the top of the agenda. Mr Netanyahu, who travelled under unusual secrecy amid reported Iranian threats, said he would discuss “all the issues, first and foremost Iran”. President Zelensky of Ukraine is due to meet Mr Trump the same day.
The talks are expected to range beyond Iran to the war in Gaza — where Israel’s cabinet has provisionally backed an international stabilisation force — and to the disarmament of Hezbollah, the sale of F-35 jets to Turkey and the prospect of normalising relations with Saudi Arabia, areas where the two leaders are reported to differ. Mr Netanyahu’s security chief has warned that Iran may seek to target Israeli officials. Both leaders are also to attend a memorial for the late Senator Lindsey Graham. Watch for what emerges, and whether it steadies or strains the Gulf truce.
