Russia and Ukraine Trade Overnight Strikes, Killing Ten
At least ten people were killed as Russia and Ukraine exchanged strikes overnight. Ukrainian officials said Russian drones killed six, including a child, at a supermarket in Chernihiv, while Moscow said Ukrainian strikes had killed four on its side. Ukraine also struck Russian logistics targets deep behind the front, part of its sustained campaign against the enemy’s war economy.
The deaths in Chernihiv, in Ukraine’s north, add to a mounting civilian toll from Russia’s intensifying long-range drone barrages, which exploit shortages of Western air-defence interceptors. Ukraine, in turn, has repeatedly hit Russian oil refineries, depots and the warehouses used to supply its forces. Neither side reported significant movement on the ground. The exchanges came amid renewed but faltering diplomatic contacts, and days after a Russian drone strayed into Nato member Romania. Watch the tit-for-tat strikes on rear infrastructure and any progress towards talks.
