Netanyahu Flies to Washington for Talks With Trump

Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel left for Washington under unusual secrecy for a meeting with President Trump, set for Tuesday, amid reported Iranian threats against Israeli officials. The talks are expected to range across Iran, the war in Gaza and the prospect of normalising relations with Saudi Arabia — areas where the two leaders are said to diverge. Mr Trump is due to meet President Zelensky the same day.

The trip comes as Israel’s cabinet has provisionally endorsed a limited international stabilisation force for a demilitarised Gaza, a plan Mr Netanyahu’s hard-right coalition has long resisted. His domestic security chief has warned that Iran may seek to interfere in forthcoming Israeli elections and even target candidates. The Washington meeting will test whether Mr Trump can extract Israeli concessions on Gaza and the wider region while managing the fragile pause in the Iran war. Watch for what the two leaders agree, and whether it steadies or strains the truce.
