At Least Eleven Killed as Russia and Ukraine Trade Strikes
At least eleven people were killed in strikes across Ukraine and Russian-held territory on Saturday. Russian-appointed officials said a Ukrainian strike on a holiday camp at Kyrylivka, on the occupied Azov coast, had killed eight people, including two children, and wounded fourteen. In the Ukrainian region of Sumy, three delivery couriers were killed by a Russian drone. Romania scrambled a fighter jet to down a drone that breached its airspace.
The Russian-installed governor of the Zaporizhia region, Yevgeny Balitsky, accused Ukraine of “deliberately” targeting civilians at the camp, a claim Kyiv did not immediately address and which could not be independently verified. President Zelensky had warned on Friday of an “imminent” large-scale Russian assault. Romania’s president, Nicusor Dan, confirmed that one of its F-16s had shot down a drone, the latest spillover of the war into Nato airspace. The exchanges underline how far the fighting now ranges beyond the front line. Watch for the warned-of Russian barrage and further airspace incidents.
