Israel Strikes Gaza After Fresh Displacement Orders
Israel bombarded parts of Gaza on Friday after issuing new displacement orders, killing at least two Palestinians, according to medical sources cited by Al Jazeera, in the latest strain on a US-brokered ceasefire in place since October. Strikes hit homes in the Bureij and Jabalia refugee camps and the Zeitoun and Tal al-Hawa districts of Gaza City. The truce has held only loosely, with near-daily Israeli operations.
More than 1,180 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire took effect last October, the Gaza health ministry says, taking the overall toll of the war above 73,000. An Al Jazeera correspondent said it was “particularly alarming” that Israeli warnings to flee had been “followed by attacks on the very areas where people have been told to flee”. Israel says it targets militants and accuses Hamas of embedding among civilians. The pattern underscores how fragile the truce remains nearly a year on. Watch whether mediators move to shore up the ceasefire.
