Russian Strike on a Kyiv Event Kills 10 as Both Sides Trade Blows
A Russian missile strike on a defence-industry gathering in the Kyiv region killed at least ten people and wounded more than a hundred on Friday, Ukrainian officials said, in one of the deadliest attacks of recent weeks. Ukraine struck back deep inside Russia, hitting an arms factory in Kirov, some 1,200km from the border, killing six. It was a bloody day on a front that has barely moved.
Ukraine’s prosecutor general opened an inquiry into who had authorised the gathering that was hit. Kyiv said its long-range strike used domestically produced cruise missiles, part of a sustained campaign against Russia’s war economy that has also targeted refineries and logistics hubs. Moscow claimed to have downed hundreds of Ukrainian drones overnight, an assertion that could not be verified.
