Iran Strikes US Gulf Bases as Trump Weighs a Bigger Attack
Iran launched retaliatory strikes on Friday against American military targets in the Gulf, including the Al-Azraq air base in Jordan, as Bahrain and Kuwait reported intercepting Iranian missiles. President Trump said he was “close to making a decision” on “a massive attack… bigger than ever before”, but had not ordered one. It followed a thirteenth night of American strikes and Iran’s rejection of a US ceasefire proposal.
Iran spurned a truce relayed by Iraq’s prime minister, insisting it would accept no deal that left control of the Strait of Hormuz unresolved; the foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, dismissed Washington’s “mindless aggression”. In Washington, the House of Representatives voted 214 to 208 — for a second time — to direct Mr Trump to end the war or seek congressional authorisation, a rare bipartisan rebuke.
