The proposal, carried by Qatari, Egyptian, Omani and Pakistani mediators, would revive the 17 June memorandum whose collapse reignited full-scale exchanges. Yet the two sides remain far apart, and President Trump’s posture leaves little diplomatic daylight: “Every time Iran kills an American soldier they will pay for that killing many times over,” he wrote. The Revolutionary Guard answered that its “missiles and drones will rain down on American criminals” for as long as the war lasted.
