Russia Unleashes One of the War’s Largest Barrages on Kyiv
Russia fired one of its heaviest ballistic salvoes of the war overnight, launching around 40 missiles — including ten Zircon anti-ship weapons — and 125 drones, mostly at Kyiv. President Zelensky said it was among the largest strike packages against the capital region since 2022, killing at least one civilian and wounding sixteen. A postal sorting terminal in Kharkiv was also hit, killing three.
The barrage exploits a global shortage of Patriot interceptors, with Russia deliberately shifting towards ballistic missiles, which are harder to stop than drones, and stockpiling for days beforehand. War analysts say Moscow has now launched more ballistic missiles this month than it produces, dipping into reserves at an unsustainable pace while cutting drone volumes. Mr Zelensky said Russia had been “stockpiling missiles for the past several days” in preparation for the strike.
