Ukraine renewed its drone attacks on St Petersburg Saturday with Russia intercepting 376 drones, the largest single Ukrainian deep-strike wave of the early-summer offensive. Ukraine’s military carried out large-scale strikes across multiple Russian regions overnight on 6 June, reaching up to 1,000 km deep into Russian territory. The Saturday strike follows the overnight strike on the Kronstadt naval base and a guided-missile corvette, and the Wednesday-Thursday strike on the St Petersburg oil terminal. The sustained pattern is calibrated to keep operational pressure on the Kremlin during the SPIEF flagship event.
The 376-drone Russian intercept figure is the largest reported by Russian air defences in a single wave since the early phase of the war. The Ukrainian deep-strike campaign against Russian state-prestige targets during the SPIEF flagship event has measurably affected the Kremlin’s economic-diplomatic positioning. The combination of the Kronstadt naval base hit (including a guided-missile corvette), the St Petersburg oil terminal strike and the second St Petersburg drone wave indicates Ukrainian intelligence-led targeting of the highest-prestige Russian assets. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said earlier in the week that Russia is “increasingly desperate”.
