Ukrainian Drones Strike Saratov Oil Refinery in Latest Deep-Strike Campaign Hit
Ukrainian forces reportedly carried out a drone attack against the Saratov Oil Refinery in Russia overnight, according to Russian Telegram media channels. The Saratov refinery is one of the principal hubs in Russia’s domestic refining network and has been a repeat target of Ukraine’s long-range deep-strike campaign through 2026. The strike comes as Russian forces killed at least five and injured 40 across Ukraine in the past day, including the destruction of the civilian train station in Sumy Oblast from which hundreds of residents commuted daily. President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned Russia is preparing a major new attack on Ukraine.
The Saratov Oil Refinery sits roughly 700 km from the Russia-Ukraine border and processes around 7 million tonnes of crude annually — one of the larger refining facilities in the Volga district. Ukrainian deep-strike operations against Russian refineries have measurably affected Russian fuel availability through 2026, with Russian wholesale petrol prices spiking after multiple strikes on refining infrastructure. Ukrainian air defences shot down 132 of 156 drones overnight Friday but Patriot interceptor stockpiles remain constrained — Zelensky is pressing the United States for more interceptors. The Romania-Russia diplomatic escalation, with Bucharest expelling the Russian consul general in Constanța on Friday, sits alongside the broader pattern of Russian airspace incursions into NATO territory.
